The Annual RES Conference is our flagship event to which we welcome over 750 participants. In 2025, this not-to-be-missed event was kindly hosted by the Economics Department at the University of Birmingham,  the RES Conference’s first visit to this vibrant city.

The conference offered opportunities to present research and develop networks with fellow economists across academic, government, private and third sector organisations. We had a great programme of traditional keynote lectures, special sessions and general sessions alongside fringe events such as masterclasses, professional development and social events.

In addition, to offer more opportunities and continue with our efforts on promoting equality, diversity and inclusion we:

  • Piloted a new date for the conference, in late June, in response to many who found the conference being traditionally in the week leading to the Easter holiday, problematic;
  • Expanding on the poster session, which was held during an evening social event, offering presenters a great opportunity to showcase their research in unique way;
  • Introduced speed sessions, where up to six presenters were given opportunities to present their research within 10 minutes but have the same time to receive feedback;
  • Offered on-campus childcare facilities. Ad-hoc nursery places available with the University’s childcare provider.
