Home > Volunteering for the Society
Volunteers are the lifeblood of the RES providing leadership, expertise and commitment to guide our work. Our volunteering opportunities include joining one of our committees, outreach programmes in schools and the local community, mentoring and acting as a peer reviewer for our journals.
Volunteering with us allows you to share your knowledge, develop new skills and grow your network, all whilst helping to advance the profession.
To get involved, look at our current vacancies or use our contact form below to tell us how you’d like to contribute.
If you are interested in volunteering for the RES, please complete this form.
We welcome everyone who is passionate about contributing to economics. Our current volunteers include economics students, academic and professional economists, and those working in related fields such as statistics. Volunteers should be 18 years of age or older.
On beginning your volunteer position, you will have induction sessions with both the RES office and your lead contact to provide context and background to your role. You can expect a clear explanation of what you will be doing and a supportive environment with courteous communications from the office and your lead contact/committee members. All staff and volunteers at the RES are expected to adhere to the Code of Conduct. We seek a professional environment that gives equal opportunity and fair treatment for all.
You will have the opportunity to develop your skills, add to your professional experience, build your network, and be recognised for your contribution.
Depending on your role, you could be working with other volunteers or with a member of staff. You will be assigned a lead contact who will schedule regular catch ups with you during your volunteering term and provide you with support and guidance.
The majority of the Society’s work is done remotely and online. Most of your work and communication will be conducted via Microsoft Teams and Outlook. We use Dropbox and OneDrive to securely share documents and files. This will be discussed with you during your induction.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and everyone who participates in RES activities is entitled to do so in a safe and secure environment. We ensure that any volunteer roles, which would be Regulated Activity if unsupervised, are assigned a lead contact that will appropriately supervise the role, in accordance with statutory guidance.
